Last minute escape to Asheville

Updated: Dec 27, 2020

In August Covid was really getting to my head and I need to take a break. I decided to drive down to Asheville for a 3 day weekend. Just me and my Canon camera.

Asheville is known for a vibrant arts scene and historic architecture, including the dome-topped Basilica of Saint Lawrence. The vast 19th-century Biltmore estate displays artwork by masters like Renoir. The Downtown Art District is filled with galleries and museums, and in the nearby River Arts District, former factory buildings house artists' studios.

I arrived in Asheville Friday afternoon and checked-in to the Hyatt Asheville/Downtown which I had stayed before with my boyfriend. We have been staying at Hyatt hotels for over 4 years and we have loved all of them. And this one does not disappoint either being a few minutes away from downtown and with an amazing rooftop bar and restaurant.

I didn't realize how tired I was and ended up following asleep at 8pm Friday night. Before I passed out though I managed to plan my weekend:

  1. Exploring the River Art District and getting a nice ice latte to start the day

  2. Walking tour downtown. I did know downtown already but figured I could discover a few new things

  3. A custom tour in the Blue Ridge Parkway combined with photography tips (which you can see in my next post)

Asheville River Art District

The River Arts District in Asheville, North Carolina is an area of former industrial buildings located near the French Broad River, along Riverside Drive east of Interstate 240. Numerous artists have moved into the area and produce and display their works.

I started my morning bright and early to go check out this part of Asheville that I had not visited yet. And there was a highly recommended and rated coffee shop that would help me start my day: Summit Coffee. https://summitcoffee.com/

I can only imagine how busy and fun this place must be on weekends. I can't wait to go back once Covid is gone.

Asheville Insider Walking Tour

Like I mentioned earlier this was not my first trip to Asheville so I knew where to go downtown but I figured it would be more fun to listen to historical facts about the city and be around other people (6 feet apart with masks off course). And the goal of the tour was for me to play with my camera, try new settings and new mode. I was also able to learn some background history about the city, which I apologize I don't remember in details. My brain hard drive is pretty full so I can't retain much more new information!! I need to clean up my hard drive eventually but haven't found the time yet!!
