On the past Memorial Day weekend I decided to take a last minute trip to my favorite city in the world. To be honest a specific event brought this trip on: Friends Experience.
For those of you who don’t know me, I am a huge Friends fan. This is how I learned English, I watch the last episode of the 10th season while I was living in NY on the Hudson river, and to this day I listen to Friends every night to fall asleep.
Unfortunately the weather did not want to cooperate the whole weekend and the picture below pretty much summarize the whole 4 days: rain, fog, umbrellas and raincoats...
It was a shame too because the city was empty and it was the best time to sightsee!
Needless to say that my pictures did not turn out very good! I will have to find a different style to take shots in the rain so it does not look as sad and gloomy.
The Empire State Building
We did get lucky going up the Empire State Building, the sky was clear despite the rain and we were able to enjoy the whole beauty of NY city's jungle. I know I have been up here already 4 or 5 times and to NY even more but I never get tired of this view for some reason. And the one good thing about Covid is that there was no lines anywhere! I never got up the Empire State Building this fast before!!
I have traveled to many countries and cities in the around the world but I can't quite explain my relationship with NY.
Graffitis, Murals and Covid Patios
Just like in San Francisco, I love how restaurants have become so creative in creating outdoor patios with graffitis, flowers, heaters and more. I hope those patios stay even after Covid but heard while in NY that New Yorkers were against keeping them because it had been taking away so many parking spots which I can understand. I wonder if at some point NY will become a car free city and you will have huge parking lots outside of the city and you will only be using the subway, electric bicycles and scooters... I think it would be really interesting!
Brooklyn Bridge
One afternoon I decided to rent an electric city bike and cruise all along the East River from the East River Park up to 59th street. It was a wonderful ride and very easy with pedal assist!!
Speakeasy Tour on the East side
PDT: http://www.pdtnyc.com The entrance to this bar is hidden behind an old phone booth inside Crif Dogs. Pick up the receiver and a hostess opens the back wall of the booth.
The Backroom: http://backroomnyc.com For access to this speakeasy, look for a sign that reads THE LOWER EAST SIDE TOY COMPANY. Pass through the gate, walk down an alleyway and up a set of stairs to find a dimly lit den fitted with a gleaming bar. Cocktails are poured into teacups, and bottled beer is brown-bagged before being served
Garfunkel's: http://www.garfunkelsnyc.com A hidden door downstairs opens to this 1920s-style speakeasy with creative cocktails in luxe decor.
